Caboose Village proprietors George and George, a father and son team with a long railroad history, were so much fun and fascinating to talk with. There is also a well-stocked good-sized mini-mart called Tug's in Marsyvale a few miles south on 89. There is a small convenience store at the gas station, but the closest grocery store is in Monroe City to the north (Gigi's). There is a microwave, but we mostly utilized our camp stove on the deck for most meals. Kitchen has a small fridge, sink with dish cleaning supplies, couple of mugs, couple of wine glasses but no plates or utensils (we had our own). We ate our meals on the deck which had a table with two chairs. The bathroom was so nice! It was bigger and nicer than our bathroom at home! And viewing deck was wonderful. Little bit of highway noise from nearby 89 mellowed out at night.
The AC worked well (summer temps in the 90s outside) and we slept great each night, opening windows after sunset to let the cold (50s) air in at night. We stayed in Caboose #12, which while was set back a bit from the large lawn area, still afforded us great views of the Sevier River and the sagebrush and open-spaces beyond. Miner's Camp, up from Marysvale to Bullion Canyon has relics and ruins from the gold mining days, and a steep but satisfying hike to Bullion Falls. Fabulous hikes abound in the Fishlake National Forest, up in the firs and aspens at 8,000' +. There is also a 6.5 mile rails-to-trails bike trail across the river, as well as the regionally renowned Piute Trail for people in ATVs/side-by-sides. The Sevier River is a dreamy, scenic, lazy paddle in a kayak or a float in a tube. We were there four nights but could have stayed weeks. We work for a railroad, so naturally we are crazy for train stuff and so excited to sleep in a caboose. First off, the Marysvale Canyon/Sevier River/Big Rock Candy Mountain offers so many fun activities! It checked so many boxes for us. It's is an incredibly cool and fun place to stay, surrounded by nearby trails, the river, amazing mountain scenery and abundant high desert beauty. Staying at the Caboose Village was such a delightful experience for us.
